Remote Control Candles Are Cool

I haven't gotten a chance to chat too much because I've been trying to nurse all my family back to health. It's been an ongoing thing for nearly a week this time around.

I wanted to share one of my favorite Christmas presents from my parents. I got remote control candles. I love candles but really only burn one jar if any and it's rare these days. I try and keep candles out of reach due to our cat singeing his fluffy tail after I caught him up on our bar flicking it over a burning wick a couple of years ago. What a stinch it caused plus the whole house could have turned to ashes... a frightening thought.

Anyhow I probably never would have bought battery operated remote control candles on my own. I just never gave it much thought. After receiving and playing around with them, I must tell you they are awesome!

A comment my mom made was that if the power goes out, we have light! SO true.
So they came in a box of eight. I wasn't sure where I was going to put all the candles. With one push of a button they turn on and flicker much like real candles. They are wax on the outside and smell like vanilla. LOVE!

When I began looking for a new spot for the candles, I realized I had wall sconces and pillar candle holders with candles I'd never light because I just find them dangerous. I replaced all my real candles for these and I just love. You can cluster or scatter but I find them lovely scattered. With a point of the remote and a push of a button, they set a nice warm mood!

Wax Seals On Candles

How are you? Are YOU ready for Valentine's Day? Um what day is it again? I'm terrible this year. I guess I'm not exactly what you call ready. I know when it is, just haven't done too much as of yet. ;)

I did take my son shopping today for Valentines for his class and he asked so innocently, "Mom, why do I have to do this?" He'll have fun on Valentine's Day when they have their class party but it kind of made me chuckle.

You may find this silly but here's an easy way to dress up a candle. All you need is ribbon and a wax seal. I like to recycle things so I found an old metal stamp I used on our wedding invitations, some ribbon and leftover wax. The opaque, glittery wax is the kind you use in a glue gun. The red is the kind you heat and drip. I tried to capture the stamp so you could see but it just didn't come out well in photos. I REALLY tried.

Wrap the ribbon and place it in position.
The wax works as a glue and keeps the ribbon on.

Leave the stamp on long enough to let the wax cool. Pull it off gently.

I played around with several different sized candles and this one above didn't turn out so great so I moved to a larger one. :)

It's just a little addition to a plain candle.
Happy Valentine's Day if I don't talk to you!

Frosty The Candle!

Wow how the weekend flew. One week until Christmas! How are you doing? I'm definitely in the spirit this year but I have felt way behind this year in all my errands and traditions. Today one of my best friends took some family photogs of us for our Christmas cards this year. We went to one of our favorite places with the kids. Of all the shots taken I don't think we got a single picture where we were all smiling and looking at the camera. It was fun though and my friend has the patience of a saint! Ha ha! I'm thinking that they might get to friends in family by New Years! : )

So this week I'm going to be cramming in as many last minute holiday craft projects of home decor and gift ideas as I can fit! Below is a quick tutorial on adding a little wintry mix to make a candle look frosted!

I got this tall blue candle as a Christmas gift a few years back. It came from World Market and I love the color of blue it is. I have a thing for snowmen and so I thought this would be a fun thing to pair up with a snowman tea light holder I have!

Using Mod Podge I took a brush and swept the glue all around the candle to cover it!

Next using my hand I rubbed Epsom salts on the candle to cover the candle. It didn't take a lot. I let it dry overnight and shook off excess salts!

I think they make a cute pair on one of our end tables!

It is so easy and it will freshen things up with the lavender scent! If you don't like lavender, get the plain Epsom salts and add your essential oil of choice!
