Clean Your Shower With V05

Yay, I'm finally able to hop back on here for a few. How has everybody been doing? Things have seriously been a little nutsy around here. I had a nasty vomiting experience last weekend which took everything out of me for part of the week(ugghh!) but I think I am ALL GOOD for the moment(fingers crossed).

I'm excited to share something my husband accidentally found due to his complete clutsiness. I can't talk because I have clutsy tendencies too but from his last one we actually learned something! Don't worry, he knows I'm talking about him here. Chuckles!

So he took a shower one night after a bike ride and accidentally knocked over an entire bottle of my shampoo. I didn't find it until the next morning and check out BELOW how it cleaned a giant spot in our shower. Please be gentile and don't judge our cleaning abilities on the filth of our shower. Yes, it gets dirty. I am working on it to clean it every. single. week. now!

I've mustered up the courage to show you our nasty builder grade shower that I didn't have nice and clean and in tip top condition. Bleh! It really smacks you in the face when you see it in a picture. GROSS!

Let me direct you to the center of the picture where the V05 spilled and poured down the drain! See how clean it came!

Below is a picture of the shower cleaned with v05 shampoo! I used a sponge and a little elbow grease!

So v05 is an uber cheap way to clean your shower. Yes, I use cheap shampoo. So sue me!

Needless to say my hub's clutsiness came in handy for once! Gotta love him! HAHA Happy Friday to you!

Say "BYE BYE" To Gnats and Flies!

Holy Gnat Grossness!
---------------------------
We have had some major nastiness in our house lately! GNATS! Bleh! They are so disgusting and seem to be in areas around all our sinks. Evidently water attracts them. Google is awesome though because it helped me find a non-chemical way to get rid of ALL. OF. THEM. Woot! Woot!

All you use is:

CIDER VINEGAR + A FEW DROPS OF DISH DETERGENT & STIR!

The vinegar attracts the bugs with its smell and the dish detergent drowns them. Put little containers near the gathering spots of your insects. Ours sinks are where they have gathered the most so I put our traps on the counters and window sills.

I used ceramic cups and bowls to make it semi-attractive. EWWWWW, yes the winged specs at the bottom are GNATS! I lost count of how many I caught but I poured the solution along with their carcasses down the toilets yesterday and FLUSH, they are G.O.N.E.

DEAD! YES! This simple, at home remedy worked awesomely well! If you get gnats or flies, try it! It has helped us sooooo much!

Save Money Using Appliances At Night

How is your week going? Laundry for me has turned into a two day process. Reason why? To try to save a little money, honey! Anywhere I can cut costs, I try to these days. So now I start laundry Sunday night - running two loads through the washer and dryer, folding them Monday morning. Then I finish the loads Monday night to try and conserve energy. We'll see if I notice a difference but I'm trying "fo shizzle". Happy Tuesday!

Rescreening Windows

So in a little while I'm hitting the highway for a road trip to get our kids who have had a fun last week visiting their grandparents. During the week this mama has been knocking off tasks from my To Do list. I've done multiple projects and I'll eventually share them all with you.

Here is one minor project that took about fifteen minutes, it was simply making the time and putting forth a little effort.

It is so simple to change out window screens. My mother-in-law taught me how easy it was a few years ago. I would have thought you'd have to fork out money to buy the entire framed screen or something but maybe that was just me and never putting much thought into it!

Supplies you need
Screen - it comes in a roll and is found at the hardware store - I used Clear Advantage and I got it from Lowe's or Home Depot.
Screen spline - I bought 140" Diameter and 25' long (for multiple screens)
Scissors
Box cutter
Screen roller tool - found in screening supplies at hardware store

*******************************************************************************

First you gently slide the screen out of the window. They are typically very easy to get out, just use common sense about how to pull it. It took me a few tries at first to figure out how to get one out of the window. HA! ;) Yes a few years ago, I replaced every screen on all the windows. I'm telling you it is an easy job and you can do it watching tv!

Okay, so next you slowly pull out the screen spline and the old screen will come out of the frame with a little force.

So once you are ready to install the new screen, cut a piece of screen and be sure to leave about an inch to an inch and a half extra overlapping the frame. I used this piece because this is what I had left from one roll but it worked. It wasn't quite an inch extra all the way around as you can see.

Lay the screen over the frame. Next cut your spline. I measure it out and wrap it all the way around the frame using only one piece. It's not necessary to make cuts and use four pieces for each side of the frame. The spline will curl around the corners with no trouble.

Once you have your screen laid out and your spline cut, start rolling the spline, keeping the screen taut as you go. It takes moderate pressure to get the spline in the slit.

After the spline has been inserted all the way around the frame, take your box cutters ( I couldn't find mine so scissors worked too) and watch those fingers cutting the excess screen!
There you have it! It's super simple and helps keep the bugs out when you open your windows. OR if you're like me and like uniformity and the "not so dry rotted" look, you might want to give this a shot!

I’m linking up to the Something to Talk About Link Party today.  Go on over and see all the fabulous diy, crafts, furniture makeovers and more.

Use Hairspray To Remove Marker Marks From Wooden Surface

The joys of children! I used to be so particular about things but over time my kids have certainly broken me of that! Here is just a small swatch of the marker they got on the kitchen table. It was like this for weeks until my mother-in-law told me you can use hair spray to remove it. I rarely ever use hairspray but I do keep a can around to spike up the boys' hair for fun every once in a while. This is such a cool trick and I am proof that it works. I had a can of cheap Tresemme.

Spray the hairspray on and wipe off with a warm damp sponge. You may have to rub with the sponge a few times before it all comes clean but what a nifty trick!

Easy Trick To Remove Crayon From Walls

So my child finally did it. Boo hiss.  I was seriously hoping that one day I could say my kids never took a crayon to a wall. Think again! Yes my little one has used a permanent marker on my parents' dog and a highlighter on my husband's face when he was sleeping but now he has attacked the walls. Darnit. I asked my friends what would remove it and got a couple of responses, one of which was surprising!

WD-40! They should add "crayon removal" as a bullet point on the can!
A good friend of mine told me this trick . It works well and I already had a can.

Dampen a wash cloth and use moderate pressure. The faint marks on the left did come out.

The wall dried completely AFTER I tookd this picture and you would never guess it had crayon on it!

Wax Off!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!  Hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating and got to see some fireworks this weekend! Sort of on that note, ya know with fire and lighting up something, I thought I'd post a simple tip on removing candle wax from a container. If you're anything like me and LOVE candles you probably already know this trick, but I'm posting anyway, to be on the safe side! Ironically I'm all over wax removal and such this week. My child has another ear infection and so the doc had to pick wax out of his ear this week. Fun filled!

So once you are finished burning a candle and are ready to toss it, try to be "GREEN" and salvage the glass container, if it's possible to either recycle or reuse but I wouldn't put any kind of food in. The candle below was an Ikea candle and I decided to reuse the glass as a votive holder.

Freezing the candle inside the container is the best way to remove it. The wax shrinks away from the glass. I put the glass container with the "leftover wax" in the freezer door overnight. The next morning I pulled it out of the freezer and was able to remove the remaining wax very easily using a spoon. The pictures are in "flip book" style so please scroll down to the bottom to see how easy it is to get the wax out! Whatever you do, do not put any wax in the sink or toilet. It will clog the plumbing. Throw it out and scrape and scrub any excess wax that might be left on the glass. Then you are ready to recycle or reuse the glass as a votive holder of have it filled again by a candle maker.

Have a wonderful week everybody!
