Another Umbrella Bouquet

Do you remember my umbrella bouquet? I made it for our front door in April to signify APRIL SHOWERS BRINGING MAY FLOWERS?!?!?

 

 

Now the seasons are changing again but at the same time I made my umbrella arrangement in the Spring, I made another one for my mom and dad for their front door. Here it is BELOW. 

 

 

 

From The OUTSIDE - I LOVE the umbrella and flowers my mom picked out - green with a wooden handle and two shades of pink tulips to give an awesome contrast to the dark green door on the yellow house.

 

 

 

From The INSIDE - The umbrella bouquet offers a calming addition to the front door and even helps brighten the inside of the house. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!

April Showers Bring May Flowers - Umbrella Door Decor!

TGIF! Happy Friday to you! What have you been up to? Have you done any decorating or updating lately? The weather here has been gorgeous this week and I have to admit that is one perk of being home with my kids. When it's nice, we are outside! Between yesterday and today I've spent most of the days out doing yard work. Six bales of pine needles spread, five bags of leaves raked and lots of sticks picked up by the trash today. Flower bed weeded! It's been productive to say the least and the kids had a ball playing with water guns and soccer balls!

So onto my latest little project... It's an umbrella bouquet for the front door! I found it on Random Thoughts!

I found an adorable teal umbrella for cheap (to contrast with the navy blue door) online and flowers from Michaels half off, plus two coupons and ribbon I already had to boot! Simple enough, it just gets a little smashed when the storm door is closed. It's okay though cause when you open the door front door with the storm door closed we get to enjoy the arrangement on the inside of the house. :) 

This project is so simple and fitting for this time of year. My mom did one for her door too. She has a yellow or hunter green front door and got a light green umbrella with a wooden handle and pink toned flowers. Beautiful too. Wish I had taken a picture because I had it hanging on my door last weekend!

A little smashed but that's okay :)

Display Christmas Cards On A Wreath

I did it! I got my Christmas cards made, printed, stuffed in envelopes and stamped to mail out tomorrow. Yippie! I was beginning to think I wasn't going to send them out this year but I'm psyched that they're done! I love sending cards and receiving cards and hearing from friends and family. We got one today from a friend we haven't heard from since last year this time so that was pretty cool! 

I normally put all my cards in a basket or some type of container but the cards aren't displayed that way, which is a big thumbs down! This year I discovered that I can use the mirror over the mantel as an extra decorating spot! I discovered the hangers you use with the removable tape! It's pretty sweet stuff! So I was able to easily attach the wreath to the mirror! Lots of exclamation points!

I had an extra straw wreath from my parent's garage and I wrapped it with thick velvety red ribbon leftover from making window wreaths. I hung the wreath and used push pins to hang the cards on the wreath. I just cover as I go or as I receive cards. :) I love it because it's a nice simple way to display the cards without having to take up a lot of room. The cards are confined to a nice small area on the mirror which is nice and neat!  

Knock! Knock! $1.00 Skeleton Wreath

Hope you're having a great weekend! I had a really nice day today and am excited to have finally completed the kids' Halloween costumes. My mother-in-law actually found the perfect solution for my youngster's costume today. Can't wait to go trick or treating!

Thought I'd share the front door wreath I came up with for $1.00! The actual wreath was freeeeeeee. My mom gave it to me last time I visited so I figured I could do something with it. 

 

I was in Dollar Tree one day and found a strand of little skeletons on twine. I pulled the skeletons off the twine and hot glued them to the wreath and there you have it. That is how I made this spooky wreath for a buck!

Chunky Candy Corn Wreath

Everybody has probably tried this wreath already and I may be the last to find this one but it was so fun to make. I still don't like the taste of candy corn though!

All you need is:

A wreath of some sort

Black duck tape

Three bags of candy corn

Glue gun

Ribbon

Krylon Preserve spray which can be bought 

at a craft store

Wrap your wreath in the black duck tape.

Use the glue gun and cover your wreath!

I went with a pattern and simply covered the entire wreath.

I used the Krylon Preserve spray and sprayed the wreath down to reuse and avoid bugs!

I used ribbon from Dollar Tree to hang it.

I think it's super cute!

Scraptastic! Scrap Fabric!

Hooray now that Monday is under our belts! What have you been up to? We just survived a chaotic yet fun child's birthday party over the weekend! I've gotten a head start on some holiday decor but it's all still in progress so I wanted to share a small project I completed.

Last week I made this cute fabric bubble wreath made out of a microfiber type of cloth left over from my bench pad. The wreath is kinda cute! I like how it turned out. 

All you need is a straw wreath, a few yards of fabric, scissors and straight pins.

Picture Tutorial

Cut fabric in 3 or 4 inch squares. I didn't cut mine all the same size and did make some rectangles instead of squares.  

I've used different fabric for the tutorial because I gave the wreath to my mom and didn't take pictures as I went along.

Fold the fabric square in half to make a triangle.

Fold one corner of the triangle over the middle corner.

Next you fold the left corner down to the bottom point where the fabric meets on either side to make a "bubble". This is a bird's eye view.

Flip the fabric upside down and push a pin through the point where all the corners meet so it goes through all pieces of the fabric.

Pin it into the wreath and it forms a puffy "bubble" type shape. Continue this all over the wreath covering the pins and you'll have yourself a really cute handmade wreath!

It's super simple and you can do this while watching tv or something!

Decorating for Valentine's Day

Since I started this blog, I thought it would be fun to decorate "lightly" for occasions I don't normally decorate for and Valentine's Day is one of them. So here is my front door wreath for Valentine's Day! I like how simple it is and how easy it was to pull together.


It's not hearts but I like the polka dots because I could use it for Valentine's Day or Christmas! I purchased the polka dot ribbon at an after Christmas sale for a quarter. Then I bought a medium size straw wreath at Michaels for just over $1.00. Pretty sweet! 

I knew I wanted the wreath to be white so I used some latex house paint from the garage to paint the straw wreath. FREE is always nice! I painted one side and let it dry before doing the other side.

I used the glue gun to attach the ribbon when I was ready. I first wrapped the ribbon around the wreath to test the spacing before actually using the glue gun.

 

Once I got to the end, I made sure the ribbon overlapped my starting point and I cut off the excess ribbon and glued it down.

Now we have a cute wreath for Valentine's Day! It looks nice and simple!

Easy Wreath

Man oh man this is the first year it has really taken a lot of motivation preparing for Christmas. Do you feel antsy with stress over the holidays or are you zipping thru your Christmas to do list? Whew! Wish I was zipping thru my list of things to do for the holidays. There is so much left to do and the clock is ticking! I think I have somewhat shot myself in the foot b/c I decided to take on several homemade projects for gifts and I haven't made much progress on them lately. I will post them after they are done and after they have been given away! Geesh I haven't even started Christmas shopping!!!!

It has been fun decorating for Christmas, even though it has been a slow process. I have added a few more things around the house. I used to have a wreath on the front door that looked like it was made out of icicles. Last year I chunked it b/c it was falling apart and we were tracking the beads everywhere. It became messy! I then bought a regular green wreath and last year attached some red and silver pearl looking ball ornaments with hooks. I never really liked the way it turned out.

So I pulled the wreath out the other night and fluffed it and attached the ornaments with the hot glue gun so they looked better and would stay put. I really like it! Simple as it is, now the door is no longer bare and it displays a lovely wreath. I could add some other elements but I like it just the way it is and it offers some contrast to the navy blue door. Um the wreath is a little off center b/c I took pictures of it after dark with the door open and I was trying to hurry because it was late. One of our neighbors across the street came outside as I was shooting the pictures with the flash. He must have thought I was a peeping tom or something. No Officer, I was just taking pictures of my Christmas wreath!!!
